The old and new will be crossing paths at MetLife Stadium when the Jacksonville Jaguars open the season against the New York Giants.
The game will be the first for Jaguars executive vice president of football operations Tom Coughlin against the Giants Womens Kris Russell Jersey , the team he led to two Super Bowl titles before resigning in January 2016 after a dozen seasons as coach.
It also will be Pat Shurmur's first regular-season NFL game as coach of the Giants, a team that has made the playoffs once (2016) since winning the Super Bowl in February 2012.
"Those who are around know the history," said Giants long snapper Zak DeOssie, who was a member of both Super Bowl teams. "We know Coughlin will have them fired up. It is the first game and everyone wants to get off on the right foot. I can't say it will be an extra motivator, but it's something we are aware of, and it doesn't chance our approach."
The Giants are just looking to play a lot better than last season. They went 3-13 and saw coach Ben McAdoo and general manager Jerry Reese get fired in early December.
Shurmur and new general manager Dave Gettleman have turned around much of the roster and they will get their first true peek at the new product this weekend in a very tough matchup.
The Jaguars (12-7) blew a 10-point fourth-quarter lead against the New England Patriots in the AFC title game in January. A trip to the Super Bowl was within their grasp.
"I think we've taking a good approach as a team, and as a group in the locker room of everybody that was a part of what happened last year so badly wants to get back to that AFC championship game and change that outcome," quarterback Blake Bortles said.
Bortles said the Jaguars aren't taking anything for granted.
"We've got to take every day, every week Jacob Markstrom Jersey , every meeting of preparation as seriously as possible, and the rest will take care of itself and we'll end up back there again," he said.
Coughlin did not talk to the media in Jacksonville this week, but coach Doug Marrone said Coughlin has not changed his approach with the return to New York.
"We know we've got a tough road ahead of us and we know we've got a tough game on the road opening day up in New York," Marrone said. "They'll be fired up and ready to go."
Here are some other things to watch:
BARKLEY-BECKHAM: There are no two players the Giants' faithful wants to see more than running back Saquon Barkley and three-time Pro Bowl receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Barkley was the second overall pick in the draft and has the talent and explosiveness to give the Giants a strong running game for the first time since 2011. Beckham missed most of last season after breaking his left ankle in early October. He did not play in the preseason, but has looked good with Eli Manning in practice and owns the richest contract for a wide receiver in NFL history.
JAGS DEFENSE: Jacksonville is loaded on defense with six returning Pro Bowlers: cornerbacks A.J. Bouye and Jalen Ramsey, linemen Calais Campbell, Malik Jackson and Yannick Ngakoue, and linebacker Telvin Smith Sr. The Jaguars were ranked No. 2 in the league last season Rickard Rakell Jersey , with Ramsey and Campbell making the All-Pro Team.
"When you have the kind of confidence we have, when you believe that we can be as good as we can, you can't wait to get there and just try to show it play after play," Campbell said.
SECONDARY WOES: New York has three veteran starters in the secondary, cornerbacks Eli Apple and newcomer Janoris Jenkins, and star safety Landon Collins. Untested Curtis Riley is the free safety. There is uncertainty about the nickel and dime backs with Donte Deayon, B.W. Webb and Michael Thomas in the mix. Depth is an issue. The team signed Antonio Hamilton, Mike Jordan and Kamrin Moore this week.
ON THE WIDE SIDE: Bortles has to find a new go-to receiver with Marqise Lee out for the year with a knee injury. Keelan Cole, second on the team last season with 42 catches for 748 yards and three touchdowns Drew Stafford Jersey , is starting along with veteran Donte Moncrief, who was signed as a free agent. Dede Westbrook is the third receiver for a team ranked No. 1 in rushing. The problem is the Giants are good against the run and that puts pressure on the wide receivers to step up.
O-LINE: The Giants spent almost $80 million to rebuild their line. Left tackle Nate Solder and right guard Patrick Omameh signed as free agents. Left guard Will Hernandez was drafted. Ereck Flowers was moved to right tackle from the left side, and Jon Halapio took over at center. The line protected well in the preseason. There were not a lot of holes for the running backs.
ELI-RAMSEY: Watch to see if Manning throws at Ramsey. The Jags cornerback slighted the two-time Super Bowl MVP in the offseason, refusing to say Manning is good while adding Beckham is the one who really makes the Giants go.
AP Sports Writer Mark Long contributed to this story.
Big blockbuster trades are few and far between in today鈥檚 NHL, but that makes them all the more exciting when they do happen.
Every time a trade involving a big-name player occurs, I always wonder what the conversations were like leading up to the trade. If you鈥檙e a GM and you鈥檙e shopping a top-tier player, there鈥檚 no limit to the offers you鈥檒l likely field (assuming you鈥檙e doing you due diligence).
Over the past three years or so there have been a handful of blockbusters in the NHL, and stories of the trades that almost happened break seemingly weekly. Today鈥檚 list will take a look at a lot of those deals: specifically, 15 recent NHL trades that almost went down.
Sure Jamie Benn Jersey , some of the sources on a few of these entries are sketchy at best, but it鈥檚 impossible to know exactly what goes on behind closed doors unless you鈥檙e on the other side of said door. I, of course, am on the wrong side of the closed door, so the best I can do is use the information from insiders with access.
Here are 15 recent NHL trades that almost happened:

The Indianapolis Colts’ second choice for head coach could turn out to be even better than the first.
And Frank Reich has the Super Bowl championship gear to prove it.
Five days after New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels reneged on a deal to take the Colts’ job Valtteri Filppula Jersey , Ballard hired Reich, the man who outwitted McDaniels last week and helped lead the Philadelphia Eagles to their first NFL title since 1960.
”Frank is a leader of men who will demand excellence from our players on and off the field,” Ballard said in a statement released Sunday. ”I look forward to working with Frank to deliver a championship-caliber team to the city of Indianapolis.”
Terms of the deal were not immediately available, but Reich is expected to be introduced at a news conference Tuesday.
Colts officials posted a photo of Reich signing the deal on the team’s website.
The move ends a search that spanned 41 days, included two coaching announcements and the embarrassment of McDaniels changing his mind Tuesday night just eight hours after telling the Colts he’d take the job.
On Wednesday, Ballard answered questions for nearly 20 minutes before finishing with ”the rivalry is back on.”
By hiring Reich, another touted offensive coordinator and a potential leading candidate next season, only added another chapter to the long and bitter series.
Exactly one week after backup quarterback Nick Foles executed an exquisite game plan to beat Tom Brady and the favored Patriots Youth Alejandro Villanueva Jersey , the Colts brought back a longtime assistant who spent two seasons working with Peyton Manning.
But this wasn’t just about sending a message.
”Frank has all the ingredients of a successful head coach: intelligence, innovation, character, organizational and leadership skills, and a commanding presence,” team owner Jim Irsay said. ”He also has a stellar reputation, and his myriad of life experiences and the people he has worked with make him the perfect fit for us and our fans. I feel extremely fortunate and could not be more excited for Colts Nation and the future of our franchise.”
It sure didn’t take long to make the decision.
Ballard interviewed the 56-year-old Reich on Friday, the day after Philadelphia held its victory celebration.
He replaces Chuck Pagano Youth Le'Veon Bell Jersey , who was fired hours after finishing the season with a 4-12 record and missing the playoffs for the third consecutive year.
Reich takes over a franchise that appears to have some key pieces in place – especially if Andrew Luck is healthy.
Luck missed the entire 2017 season after having surgery for a partially torn labrum in his throwing shoulder. He went on injured reserve in November because of lingering pain in his right shoulder after he had started throwing a football.
On Wednesday, Ballard said Luck still hasn’t thrown a football since October.
”He’s going to do everything right to get himself ready to play and I’m very confident, he’s very confident, that he’s going to come back and prove a lot of people wrong,” Ballard said.
The Colts also have a defense that showed steady improvement throughout the season, the No. 3 overall draft pick in April, nearly $80 million to spend in free agency and a promising backup quarterback in Jacoby Brissett, who started 15 games in 2017.
And the Colts already have three assistants on Reich’s staff – probable defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus Casey Cizikas Jersey , Mike Phair and Dave DeGuglielmo. All three agreed to join McDaniels’ staff in Indy and have been promised by Ballard that they will remain on the staff.
Reich, meanwhile, returns to the franchise where he started his coaching career as an intern in 2006. He was named an offensive assistant in 2008, succeeded Jim Caldwell as quarterbacks coach the next season and became receivers coach in 2011.
In 2012, he coached the receivers in Arizona and then was hired as San Diego’s quarterbacks coach in 2013. The Chargers promoted him to offensive coordinator in 2014 where he stayed until joining the Eagles in 2016.
Reich may be best known, however, for rallying the Buffalo Bills from a 35-3 deficit to a 41-38 overtime victory over the Houston Oilers in January 1993 – the biggest comeback in playoff history.
Now, in his first head coaching job http://www.officialbluejackets.com/authe...ard-jersey , he will be paired with the architect of the second-biggest playoff comeback, Luck.
”Frank Reich was with me at the end of my tenure with the Colts,” Hall of Fame coach Tony Dungy wrote on Twitter. ”He has a creative offensive mind. He’s a great communicator and a high quality person. The Colts are in great hands.”
Reich graduated from the University of Maryland where he was a backup to Boomer Esiason. He won the starting quarterback job as a senior and spent 14 seasons in the NFL playing for Buffalo, Carolina, the New York Jets and Detroit.

LeBron James says he ”pretty much played the last three games with a broken hand” after injuring himself in frustration after Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
James punched a white board following Cleveland’s overtime loss in the opener at Oracle Arena, calling his injury ”self-inflicted” after Golden State finished a sweep of the Cavaliers with a 108-85 victory on Friday night.
James arrived for his postgame news conference with a cast over his right hand.
He says he was upset by some calls that went against the Cavs late in the fourth quarter of their opening loss and he was upset they had missed their chance to win on the road, saying he ”let the emotions get the best of me.”
James scored 23 points in Game 4.

Aldrick Rosas can’t have a repeat of last season if he wants to remain the New York Giants‘ placekicker.
The 23-year-old from Southern Oregon might have been the biggest surprise of training camp last summer Frederik Andersen Jersey , making the roster as a first-year free agent. The 6-foot-3, rock-solid 233-pounder with a booming leg made almost every kick attempted in training camp to beat out veteran Mike Nugent. It was a no-brainer for then-coach Ben McAdoo and his staff.
Then came the regular season and everything went south for McAdoo, the team – and Rosas.
There were good moments: Rosas kicked in the opener at Dallas and then hitched a ride on co-owner’s Steve Tisch’s jet so he could get to California for the birth of his daughter and first child, Karsyn Isabella.
”She is doing great, she is awesome,” Rosas said Friday after practice. ”It’s amazing. She is eating the house. She is growing so fast. It’s amazing.”
His season wasn’t so pretty.
Rosas made 18 of 25 field-goal attempts. That’s 72 percent and not good enough when coaches expect their kickers to hit 80 percent.
”It’s felt like I have done five years since last summer,” Rosas said. ”It’s been a ride. When you go back and reflect, it’s learning the game of football, being a professional and learning the game of life and being a Dad. I am still learning.”
Rosas said the biggest thing he learned as a player was the need to stick to a plan and take it one kick at a time, regardless of each result.
This season Tyler Ennis Jersey , he is trying to follow a routine after each kick. He wants to come to the sideline, take a sip of water and wait for his next field-goal attempt, kickoff or extra point.
Rosas insists when he walks on the field, he is never looking to see how far he has to kick the ball, or where the ball is positioned. He is looking at his spot and focusing.
”So if I pushed the last one wide right, I am still going to line up the same, right down the middle,” he said. ”I am going to give it my best effort to make it. It may be the same result, but I am not going to let the last kick dictate what I do on this one.”
Rosas has spent a lot of time recently working with regular long snapper Zak DeOssie and new holder, punter Riley Dixon. Friday was the first time the unit practiced the hurry-up Mathew Barzal Jersey , last-minute field-goal attempts with the fans and media watching.
Rosas made all three attempts.
Looking back on last season, Rosas can’t say one thing went wrong. He said his confidence level was OK, but he felt he let his mind wander on what he should and should not be doing in practice with his kicking.
This year, he wants to do the same thing every kick and have a little fun.
New coach Pat Shurmur was hesitant to say what he expected from his kicker, although he agreed with someone with a cranky wizard-like voice from behind the podium curtain who chirped in: ”Just make `em.”
”I think it’s important,” Shurmur said. ”Again, you’ve got to see it happen in game situations. Most often, the kickers that you have in camp make them during the practice sessions, you’ve just got to watch it happen. It’s really not that much more complicated than that.”

— As much as he tries to downplay the significance, Oakland Raiders coach Jon Gruden is fully aware Friday’s exhibition game against the Detroit Lions will be anything but an ordinary preseason contest.
It’s been 17 years since Gruden last roamed the sidelines at the Coliseum with the Raiders. He came back in 2004 with Tampa Bay and again in 2012 as a television analyst.
Gruden’s iconic status among Raiders fans promises to make this time different. Much Wayne Gretzky Jersey , much different.
“I am looking forward to it,” Gruden said Wednesday after the second of two joint practices with the Lions. “I’m looking forward to it big-time. I’ve got some things obviously I’ve got to work out. So I’ve got to work myself through calling plays again and managing some tough situations. I’m anxious to see if I can do it.”
Gruden developed a cult-like following during his first stint as the Raiders coach from 1998-2001. Those feelings didn’t wane when Gruden was traded to Tampa Bay by late owner Al Davis and only strengthened when the coach went into the television booth.
Gruden showed his appreciation in 2009 while in town to broadcast a San Francisco 49ers game when he held a party at Ricky’s, a Raiders sports bar not far from the Coliseum.
Gruden held another party at Ricky’s three weeks ago to celebrate his return and paid for dinner and soft drinks for the fans. About 600 people showed up.
“It’s an honor to be here and it’s a great story, but I also just want to do everything I can in order to try and help this team win again,” Gruden said. “I love the Raider fans. I love Oakland and that’s the primary reason I’m standing here.”
Lions coach Matt Patricia developed a friendship with Gruden while he was defensive coordinator in New England and the Raiders coach was working at ESPN.
Gruden’s return, Patricia said, is good for the NFL.
“If you meet with him, you’re gonna find a guy that absolutely loves football from its core, all the way out, every aspect of it Aaron Ekblad Jersey ,” Patricia said. “He loves to coach and I think he loves to be around the players. I think it’s great for the game. I think it’s great for the Raiders organization.”
The rest of the storyline around Friday’s game is fairly antiseptic.
Quarterback Derek Carr and the rest of Oakland’s starters will only play a series or two, with the majority of playing time being doled out to the rookies and fringe players on the roster.
“This game is not about Derek Carr, not yet,” Gruden said. “It’s about finding the right 53 men, and I think you saw it today, we’ve got a lot of contenders. There are a lot of guys that have put themselves on the brink of making this football team and we’ve got to make sure we give them every opportunity to showcase their skills.”
Notes: Former Raiders Warren Sapp and James Jones attended practice, along with ex-Lions coach and current NFL Network analyst Steve Mariucci. . LT Donald Penn continues to rehab from offseason foot surgery and is getting closer to getting back on the field. “Our trainer is pleased with the progress that he’s made,” Gruden said. “Hopefully that time is soon.”

RENTON Authentic Anthony Barr Jersey , Wash. (AP) — At various points during his recovery, when he was traveling to Germany and Switzerland and England to try out the latest treatments, Brandon Marshall spent nearly as much time fighting doubt as he did trying to overcome his injuries.
His world is now centered in Seattle, the sixth stop in his 13-year career. It’s a stop where he may start and will likely be a heavy contributor when the Seahawks open the regular season Sunday in Denver, the place where he first became a star.
“I’m a competitor. That’s why I’m here,” Marshall said. “I think the reason why I’m still playing is that I felt that I never arrived. I always feel like you can get better.”
This isn’t the spry Marshall that became one of the top receivers in the league while in Denver and Miami. It’s not the version of Marshall that caught 109 passes and 14 touchdowns just three seasons ago with the New York Jets.
This version of Marshall is 34 years old, coming off a major ankle injury and toe surgery that cost him the majority of the 2017 season with the New York Giants. He’s a complementary player who fills a need for the Seahawks with his 6-foot-5 frame and could become the red-zone target Seattle had in recent seasons with Jimmy Graham.
At this point of his career Womens Charlie McAvoy Jersey , Marshall has the highest standards for even the smallest things. Jaron Brown learned that in training camp when during a drill he lined up in the wrong spot.
“He kind of got mad at me for a second and he didn’t talk to me for that whole period. I didn’t know what was going to happen,” Brown said with a laugh. “It was OK. … I think at this point he wants to get everything right and he critiques himself so hard. I understand it because I’m that way too but it was funny to see him get a little mad at me.”
He’s also become a sounding board for younger players seeking advice or ideas. Considering he’s the second-oldest player on Seattle’s roster — only kicker Sebastian Janikowski is older — that means it could be anyone.
“His vast knowledge of the game is incredible. I was just picking his brain earlier about some things, about offenses and what he’s seen in his history,” wide receiver Doug Baldwin said. “Obviously the physical presence he brings to the field, he’s extremely gifted with that, with his size, but he is so nimble Luca Sbisa Jersey , so quick and it’s fun to be able to go back and forth with a guy who has so much knowledge about the sport. I think that part of it, just in itself, is going to be a huge positive.”
What Marshall can bring — if healthy — is something Seattle has wanted for years.
Coach Pete Carroll has sought a big wide receiver throughout his time with the Seahawks and he’s only had that kind of offensive weapon in small spurts.
Graham was that way once he returned from a major knee injury, but it was mostly just around the end zone that Seattle figured out the best ways to use him. Mike Williams had a breakout season with the Seahawks in 2010, but it was just that one season.
His health is going to be the biggest question for Marshall. Once he shook a slight hamstring strain in training camp, he demonstrated the skills and talent that have made him one of the top pass catchers in the game. The real test of what Marshall has left begins Sunday.
“I’m still trying to prove myself to not only the world but most importantly my teammates and my coaches here,” Marshall said. “On paper it’s a 34-year-old receiver with two down years. Every day I go out there I remind myself I want to prove to (Russell Wilson) what type of receiver I am and what he has out there.”
Seahawks owner Paul Allen is offering up more than thoughts and prayers.
According to Liz Matthews of USA TODAY Kyle Brodziak Jersey , the Microsoft co-founder has donated $1 million to a campaign trying to raise the age to purchase semi-automatic rifles from 18 to 21 in Washington.
The latest donation went to support Initiative 1639, which supporters say would create a background check system for semi-automatic rifles similar to the one for handguns, along with requirements for training and safe storage. The measure needs 260,000 signatures on petitions to get it on the ballot in 2018.
He announced the donation on Twitter, and issued a statement of support.
鈥淚nitiative 1639 is a reasonable and necessary measure that will improve the safety of our schools and our communities, which is why I have contributed a million dollars to the campaign,” he said. “I hope people throughout the state will support the campaign Evgenii Dadonov Jersey Kids , so that we can qualify and pass this important initiative into law.鈥?/p>
It’s not the first time he’s dropped a big check on gun reform initiatives. In 2014, he donated $500,000 to a campaign which sought to expand background checks on gun sales in his home state.
Washington lawmakers declined a chance to raise the age to buy semi-automatic rifles after February’s school shooting in Florida, which, as it happens, was not the last school shooting in America.

The three rookie receivers of the Green Bay Packers had a mixed debut.
J'Mon Moore Womens Justin Tucker Jersey , Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown had their moments, but also showed room for improvement in the Green Bay Packers' 31-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Thursday night.
Valdes-Scantling, a fifth-round pick from South Florida, had the best game of the three, catching five passes for 101 yards, including a 15-yard touchdown from No. 4 quarterback Tim Boyle.
Brown, a sixth-round pick from Notre Dame, had four catches for 61 yards, including a slick 28-yard catch-and-run to help set up Valdes-Scantling's touchdown.
Moore, a fourth-round pick from Missouri, had the toughest game of the three, catching three passes for 27 yards and dropping what would have likely been a long touchdown pass. Valdes-Scantling also dropped a pass.
"I thought they did a really good job getting off the line of scrimmage Authentic Mike Cammalleri Jersey ," coach Mike McCarthy said Friday.
"I thought their releases and attacking leverage, the young guys, frankly, did better than some of the veterans (after watching) the video. But what do we do at the end of the route? Those are things that you just need live reps. Getting out of the cut, getting to the right breaking point, catching the ball."
As has been the case throughout camp, the young receiver who stole the show was Jake Kumerow.
He isn't a rookie. He's in his fourth training camp after two years on the Cincinnati Bengals' practice squad and after spending time on the Packers' practice squad at the end of last season.
Kumerow, who has drawn praise from star quarterback Aaron Rodgers throughout camp, put an exclamation point on the game with a 52-yard touchdown catch from Boyle.
But while the 26-year-old Kumerow came from Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater, he's had the advantage of NFL camp experience and has avoided the inconsistency the three rookie draft picks have exhibited.
That inconsistency drew Rodgers' ire late in the week after a particularly sloppy practice on Tuesday that McCarthy called "our worst practice of the year."
After that practice, Rodgers, who ran the scout-team offense because he wasn't going to play against the Titans Authentic Max Domi Jersey , listed players who were doing things the right way, but left the three rookie receivers off that list.
While he never mentioned them by name, he left little doubt which players he was referring to for making repeated mistakes.
Valdes-Scantling had a leaping 51-yard catch on a deep pass by DeShone Kizer in the third quarter. He also made a nice in-the-air adjustment to pull down Boyle's pass on the touchdown, which gave the Packers a 24-10 lead with under four minutes left.
"Definitely. That's our leader," Valdes-Scantling said when asked if he took Rodgers' criticism to heart. "You've got a Hall of Fame quarterback over there, and if he's telling you that you're not doing it right, you've got to change what you're doing. It's just that we've got to be pros all the time. Can't be pros for just three-fourths of practice, you've got to be it all the time. That was the only thing."
Moore's biggest disappointment came in the second half, on a deep ball from Boyle on third-and-8 from the Green Bay 35-yard line. While Moore did a terrific job of getting open on the go-route, he dropped the ball at the Titans 29-yard line. Had he caught it, it likely would have been a 65-yard touchdown.
"I'm going to move forward for sure," Moore said. "But it's definitely going to put a fire up underneath me and definitely have me dig deeper."
>(NEW YORK) — The military group American Veterans (AMVETS) says the NFL has rejected its full-page Super Bowl program ad that contained the hashtag “#PleaseStand.” The ad Authentic Eric Berry Jersey , with the picture a color guard holding the American flag, also included a call to donate $20 to AMVETS.The ad jumps right into the controversy surrounding NFL players kneeling during the National Anthem, originally stoked by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick prior to last season and recharged after inflammatory comments by President Donald Trump last September. In a letter sent to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday, AMVETS National Commander Marion Polk wrote that “freedom of speech works both ways.” Polk goes on to say, “We respect the rights of those who choose to protest,” but “imposing corporate censorship to deny those same rights to those veterans who have secured it for all is reprehensible.”Goodell said in a letter to teams in October that the NFL believes everyone should stand for the anthem, but added, “We also care deeply about our players and respect their opinions and concerns about critical social issues.”The NFL released a statement on Monday, saying they did not accept the ad due to it making a “political statement.”“The Super Bowl program is designed for fans to commemorate and celebrate the game, players, teams, and the Super Bowl. It has never been a place for advertising that could be considered by some as a political statement Womens Andy Dalton Jersey ,” NFL Vice President of Communications Brian McCarthy said in the statement.McCarthy says AMVETS submitted the “Please Stand” ad (with no hashtag) last Wednesday. McCarthy says the NFL approved other tag lines, such as “Please Honor Our Veterans” or “Please Stand for our Veterans,” but the organization did not respond and the program went into production without the AMVETS ad.McCarthy says the NFL delayed printing of the program specifically to wait for a response. It was only after the program had gone into production that the group asked to add the hashtag, he said.McCarthy says the NFL will continue to salute service members during the Super Bowl with “on-field moments that will be televised as part of the game.”In the letter to the NFL commissioner, Polk writes that “veterans are good for more than just military aircraft flyovers, photo opportunities during halftime, or props to sell camouflage-style NFL apparel.”Trump told people at a campaign rally in Alabama last September that owners should say, “Get that son of a b—- off the field right now” if they “disrespect the flag.” He returned to the topic multiple times on during the NFL season, repeatedly criticizing players who kneeled and blaming declining NFL ratings on the controversy.Copyright © 2018, ABC Radio. Forrest Lamp tore a ligament in his right knee on the third day of his first NFL training camp. He hadn't participated in another football practice until Monday.
One year and 11 days after that heartbreaking injury Noah Hanifin Jersey , Lamp has returned to practice with the Los Angeles Chargers. The offensive lineman's excitement about his rookie year vanished long ago into months of tough rehabilitation, but Lamp was excited to reach another milestone on his steady progress back to the field.
"It's like the first day of school, but it's like riding a bike," Lamp said. "It comes back pretty quickly."
Lamp participated only in individual drills at Jack Hammett Sports Complex, staying out of team drills. The Chargers have resisted the urge to rush anything with their 2017 second-round draft pick as he plays his way back to compete for a starting spot at guard.
"I have felt good for quite a while," Lamp said. "But you feel good, then have a bad day, then you feel good. It's just like anything else in life. I just stick to the plan they give me."
The Western Kentucky product was considered one of the top offensive linemen in last year's draft, particularly among the guard prospects. The Chargers grabbed him with the 38th overall pick, and he probably had a shot to win a starting job in camp after performing solidly in offseason activities.
But Lamp seriously injured his knee right away, requiring surgery and extensive rehabilitation.
Lamp had never experienced anything like it in his football life.
He was a model of durability at Western Kentucky Youth Cam Newton Jersey , where he started 51 games while largely playing as a left tackle. He missed just two games during four years with the Hilltoppers, both due to an ankle injury in his senior year.
"It was great to be back out here and not with the training staff," Lamp said after practice.
Lamp was in a potentially awkward situation after his injury as he attempted to keep up with the Chargers during their relocation season even though he had never played in a game with his new teammates.
"I felt like part of the team," Lamp said. "You get drafted in April and you show up in May, so you're only here for two months during OTAs and minicamp. In that short period of time, you gain a lot of friends, which you wouldn't think you would. When I got hurt, a bunch of the guys texted me. I was around and I was in meetings, so I still felt like part of the team. They did a good job of including me in things."
Lamp needed a second surgery in May after he felt pain in his knee, but it was merely an arthroscopic cleanup procedure. He appears to be moving well on the knee, and he feels publicly confident about his return.
But the Chargers are still sticking to their deliberate plans with Lamp. Coach Anthony Lynn acknowledges he would like to see Lamp play in their third exhibition game against Seattle on Aug. 25 Martin Frk Jersey , but everything will depend on Lamp's progress over the next week.
"Oh, it's huge," Lynn said. "It's been a long time for Forrest. He's champing at the bit, man. We're trying to hold him back right now."
NOTES: Lamp was activated from the physically unable to perform list before practice. ... After their tight ends largely struggled in the preseason opener, the Chargers claimed tight end Je'Ron Hamm off waivers from Seattle on Monday. Los Angeles waived receiver Marcus Peterson to make room. Hamm has spent time with four other teams during the past four years, making two career receptions. The Chargers have said nothing recently about their interest in re-signing Antonio Gates, the leading pass-catcher in franchise history. The Chargers and Gates talked about a reunion after starter Hunter Henry was lost for the season to an injury during offseason activities.
It's finally game week and Earl Thomas' contentious holdout from the Seattle Seahawks continued on Monday, meaning the questions about their mostly unproven secondary remain the same on the cusp of the regular season beginning.
The position group that's been the most recognizable on the Seahawks' roster will be markedly different when they take the field in Denver on Sunday.
Richard Sherman is in San Francisco. Kam Chancellor won't play this year because of last season's neck injury that likely will end his career. Thomas is away while unhappy with his contract situation, and Byron Maxwell, the last of Seattle's veterans that was around during training camp, was placed on season-ending injured reserve.
That will leave Shaquill Griffin and Dontae Johnson as the expected starting cornerbacks http://www.officialcapitals.com/authenti...sov-jersey , and Tedric Thompson and Bradley McDougald as the likely starting safeties for the opener.
And while that collection has talent and could end up being very good for Seattle, for most non-Seahawks fans it may draw a collective, "Who?"
Seattle coach Pete Carroll seemed to answer the biggest lingering question by saying Thompson is expected to be ready to start at free safety. Thompson had been the starter for most of training camp, but suffered a shoulder stringer and rib injury in the third preseason game against Minnesota and sat out the final week of the preseason.
"He practiced today a little on a limited basis but he is ready to go," Carroll said.
Johnson's action in the preseason was also limited. He played only the final two weeks, but Seattle saw enough to feel comfortable with him as the expected starter. Their decision was made easier when Maxwell couldn't get healthy.
"He was banged up for a while and really didn't have a chance to show it but once he did he's showed us he has picked everything up, he has bought into the style we want him to play," Carroll said of Johnson. "He's been really consistent. He's a big, good-looking kid out there, really on the spot, and has given us the confidence to go ahead and put him where we have."
Seattle's cornerback depth could be a concern if there's another injury. Rookie Tre Flowers has impressed during training camp but is making the switch from safety. Nickel cornerback Justin Coleman has proven to be a smart acquisition before the start of last season but plays a specialized position.
Seattle did address some of its safety depth by acquiring Shalom Luani from Oakland for a seventh-round pick over the weekend. And perhaps there's a glimmer of hope regarding Thomas. Asked Monday if there had been any additional contact with Thomas Womens Connor Hellebuyck Jersey , Carroll said there was "nothing to report," which was a minor upgrade from his blanket "no" the last time he was asked about his missing safety.
CUT DAY: Two of the notable moves Seattle made to reach the 53-man roster limit were placing tight end Ed Dickson on the non-football injury list and activating defensive end Dion Jordan from the physically unable to perform list.
Carroll said he's not ruling out the idea of Jordan playing against the Broncos even though this is his first week of practice. Whenever Jordan returns it'll be a boost to Seattle's pass rush.
"He's close. We'll see. I'm not going to be opposed to playing him this weekend," Carroll said.
Dickson missed all of training camp with a variety of leg muscle injuries. Carroll said there were three different issues that kept Dickson out, but the time he's required to be out by being on the NFI list should allow him to get healthy and contribute later in the season.
NOTES: Seattle placed RB J.D. McKissic on injured reserve Monday and claimed linebacker Jermaine Grace off waivers. McKissic has been out following foot surgery, but by being placed on injured reserve after the 53-man roster was set, he can be activated following the eighth game of the season. Grace, who was in camp with Cleveland, was waived by the Browns on Sunday and gives Seattle depth at weak-side linebacker with K.J. Wright still recovering from knee surgery last week.

Former TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin was arrested Wednesday at his North Texas home and charged with aggravated assault after his girlfriend accused him of beating her severely at his home.
Boykin was arrested at his Mansfield Womens Marian Hossa Jersey , Texas, home after Mansfield police reviewed footage of a March 21 incident captured by Boykin's security video system, according to a police statement.
He's been booked into the Mansfield city jail and remains without bond, pending arraignment.
The Seattle Seahawks released Boykin from its practice squad Tuesday after WFAA-TV in Dallas posted an interview with Boykin's girlfriend in which she alleged he broke her jaw.
Boykin, 24, has denied the allegations http://www.lionscheapshop.com/cheap-auth...ord-jersey , and his agent Drew Pittman told the station the allegations are false. Calls to Pittman by The Associated Press went unanswered Wednesday.
The assault allegation is the latest off-field issue for Boykin, who has spent his NFL career with Seattle.
He was arrested in Dallas last year when a vehicle he was a passenger in hit several people on a sidewalk. He fled the scene on foot but was later arrested on misdemeanor charges of public intoxication and possession of marijuana.
In 2015, Boykin was arrested for assaulting a police officer and public intoxication shortly before the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio during his senior season at TCU. Boykin, who was the team's quarterback, was suspended for the bowl game.
On the surface, they’re relatively indistinguishable. One was the defensive player of the year in 2016 Phillip Danault Jersey , the other won the award in 2017.
Both arrived via round one of the 2014 draft. Both are entering the fifth year of their rookie contracts.
Neither has gotten the long-term deal he deserves.
But there’s a difference between Raiders defensive end Khalil Mack and Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald, when it comes to a potential training-camp holdout.
Last year, Mack showed up. Donald didn’t. And Donald’s holdout kept him from getting a fourth year of credit toward free agency. Which means that, if he does it again (specifically, if he holds out and doesn’t show up at least 30 days before the start of the regular season), he’ll still be stuck on three accrued seasons — and he wouldn’t be eligible for unrestricted free agency next year.
That means he wouldn’t necessarily receive the franchise tag in 2019. While the Rams could still use it if they want Womens Aaron Rodgers Jersey , the Rams could instead tender him at the highest restricted free agency level, which would give the Rams the right to match an offer sheet from another team and first-round compensation if they don’t.
Donald may welcome that, since someone would surely make a run at him if the compensation is only a first-round pick. And if in the end the Rams realize that the safest course would be application of the exclusive franchise tag despite Donald having only three accrued years (even with the non-exclusive franchise tag, another team may happily surrender two first-round picks), Donald would be in the same place he would have been even if he shows up.
The only downside for Donald comes from a possible injury that would impair his market value and potentially prompt the Rams to roll the dice with the RFA tender, securing his rights for 2019 by putting millions less on the table. That dynamic would/could (should) make Donald more likely to carry a holdout deep into the regular season Jeff Petry Jersey Kids , in order to ensure that, come 2019, he’ll be getting the exclusive franchise tender.
By rule, he can show up as late as the Tuesday after Week 10 and get credit for the contract year. While few players ever do that, the sheer volume of disgruntled players in 2018 raises the odds that one of them will.

The Seattle Seahawks continued to lock up their 2018 draft class by signing linebacker Shaquem Griffin and cornerback Tre Flowers to rookie contracts Thursday.
Third-round pick Rasheem Green is now Seattle’s lone unsigned draft pick. Griffin and Flowers were both selected in the fifth round.
The Seahawks also signed free agent linebacker Dadi Nicolas and wide receiver Keenan Reynolds. Defensive ends Marcell Frazier and Noble Nwachukwu were waived to make room on the 90-man roster.
Nicolas was a sixth-round pick of Kansas City in 2016 and appeared in 11 games Nazem Kadri Jersey , mostly on special teams. He suffered a patellar tendon injury late in his rookie season and missed all of 2017.
Reynolds was a sixth-round selection by Baltimore in 2016. He transitioned to wide receiver after being a star quarterback at Navy. He spent his rookie season on the Ravens practice squad and was with Washington’s practice squad for part of 2017.

DENVER (AP) — Case Keenum won his Denver debut despite throwing three interceptions to go with his three touchdowns.
He can thank Von Miller , who sacked Russell Wilson three times, forced two fumbles and recovered one as the Broncos held off the Seattle Seahawks 27-24 on Sunday to win for the 18th time in their past 19 home openers.
Keenum, who signed a two-year, $36 million prove-it deal in Denver six months ago after leading the Minnesota Vikings to the NFC championship game, normally spends his time between series with his head down but he kept looking up to watch Miller’s magic.
“I’m trying to stay focused on looking at the pictures, getting ready for my next series. “But it’s hard not to notice when the crowd’s going crazy and Von’s out there crawling or whatever he’s doing, whatever his sack dance is,” Keenum said. “That’s impressive to watch.
“I’m glad I’m on the sidelines when he’s on the field, that’s for sure.”
Wilson wasn’t so lucky.
“We played a really tough defense http://www.lionscheapshop.com/cheap-auth...iii-jersey , one of the best defenses you’re going to face all year. Obviously Von is a great player and he made some key plays,” Wilson said.
Miller, whose best play came when he simply snatched the ball from running back Chris Carson’s arms, said recently that he hates facing Wilson, whom he considers the best quarterback in the game today.
“I still don’t like playing against Russell, I mean, running around out there 20 yards, getting everybody tired,” Miller said. “Luckily, we were able to get him before he could get started. That was in our scheme this week Womens Devante Smith-Pelly Jersey , we wanted to keep him in the pocket and (make) him beat us with his arm, which he’s capable of doing. But we’d rather pick that poison and that strategy worked.”
Wilson threw for 298 yards and three TDs, but was picked off twice and sacked six times and ran just twice for 5 yards.
“He got out of the pocket a couple of times, but that’s Russ,” Miller said. “He’s a great player. He’s going to get out of the pocket, but we kept some of the great plays to a minimum.”
Keenum, who threw for 329 yards, only threw seven interceptions last season and already he has three.
“I’m really excited about how good this football team can be,” Keenum said. “Because if we take care of the ball — if I take care of the ball, because those are all on me — we’re going to be really Authentic Stephen Johns Jersey , really hard to beat.”
SPUTTERING SEAHAWKS
After Demaryius Thomas atoned for several early hiccups by scoring the go-ahead TD with 11:11 left, the Seahawks gained just 3 yards in their final three possessions, the last one ending with Adam Jones‘ interception at midfield with no time left.
“It’s frustrating,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. “Third downs we were lousy (2 for 12) and we didn’t run the ball as well as we wanted (64 yards) and we got sacked a bunch of times. It was not a very clean game for us.”
Wilson put the Seahawks ahead 24-20 when he found Tyler Lockett all alone for a 51-yard touchdown catch early in the fourth quarter.
HOMECOMING KING
Brandon Marshall’s 20-yard TD catch for Seattle tied it at 17 and came against the team he started his career with back in 2006.
NO DOUBTING THOMAS
One of Keenum’s interceptions came when Demaryius Thomas, who also had three passes go off his hands and was whistled for a holding call that negated a first-down run, never looked back and safety Earl Thomas snared it in his first game since ending his holdout Wednesday.
“I thought I had a pick-6,” said Thomas, who was caught at the 15-yard line by Broncos speedy running back Phillip Lindsay.
No matter: Six seconds later, rookie tight end Will Dissly blew past rookie linebacker Bradley Chubb and hauled in the 15-yard TD pass.
“Just glad to get through the first game and get that out of the way,” said Earl Thomas Anton Stralman Jersey , who returned to the team after his pay-me-or-trade-me demands went nowhere.
SOMERSAULT CELEBRATION
Denver took a 14-10 lead when Emmanuel Sanders somersaulted into the end zone with a 43-yard score. That was his first touchdown since Week 2 of last season.
“It was good to get back in the end zone so I decided to bust out the flip,” Sanders said. “It felt good.”
TWIN TROUBLE
Shaquill Griffin’s twin brother, rookie linebacker Shaquem Griffin, started the game with K.J. Wright out following minor knee surgery. It’s another chapter in the remarkable story of Griffin , who had his left hand amputated as a child.
The Griffins had back-to-back tackles on Seattle’s second defensive series.
INJURIES: The only injury of note from either team was Seattle WR Doug Baldwin (right MCL sprain).

Seahawks: Visit Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

First the general manager Authentic Teuvo Teravainen Jersey , now the coach.
In another move aimed at getting the Charlotte Hornets on track, majority owner Michael Jordan fired coach Steve Clifford on Friday after the team went 36-46 and failed to reach the playoffs for the third time in the last four seasons.
Clifford had a year left on his contract. The move to dismiss him came after his face-to-face meeting Friday with new general manager Mitch Kupchak.
”I want to thank Coach Clifford for his contributions to the Hornets,” Kupchak said in a statement. ”I know he has worked incredibly hard on behalf of the organization and we wish him the best moving forward. The search for a new coach will begin immediately.”
Jordan hired Kupchak on Sunday to replace Rich Cho, who was fired earlier in the season after the Hornets failed to climb out of an early slump.
The Hornets were 196-214 in five seasons under Clifford. They reached the playoffs twice, but failed to make it out of the first round in 2014 and 2016.
Clifford on Wednesday called this a ”disappointing” season because he felt this was his most talented Hornets team. It was a rough season for him in other ways – he missed 21 games because of headaches stemming from sleep deprivation.
He acknowledged that the Hornets ”didn’t make good progress” this year, particularly on defense, his forte.
Clifford is the third NBA coach to be dismissed since the end of the regular season Nick Jensen Jersey , following Jeff Hornacek of New York and Frank Vogel of Orlando.
Clifford was an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers for one season while Kupchak was the general manager there. Kupchak said this week he knew then that Clifford had head coaching potential. But it took Kupchak less than week on the job to fire Clifford.
”The NBA isn’t about winning, the NBA is about winning in the playoffs,” Clifford said Wednesday when asked about his job security. ”So if you want to look back at our five years, and I told our staff this last night, I do feel very good about where we are and how we are perceived versus where it was five years ago.
”We made great gains. To be relevant and respected in this league is a long way from where we started. And I do know people respect how we play, our purpose of play and everything like that.”
But Clifford went on to say that isn’t enough.
”You’re fooling yourself to say that it’s better,” he said. ”That’s not what it is. So you know I don’t have my head in the sand of what this head coaching is all about. Also you can’t walk around like that Ryan Strome Jersey , I don’t care how many years you have left on your contract, and you can get fired in one week in this league.”

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions have cut quarterback Jake Rudock, paving the way for veteran Matt Cassel to move forward as Matthew Stafford’s backup.
The Lions announced Saturday that they have cut their roster down to 53 players, waiving Rudock, defensive end Alex Barrett, wide receivers Jace Billingsley Phillip Danault Jersey , Dontez Ford and Chris Lacy, linebackers Freddie Bishop and Darnell Sankey, cornerbacks Mike Ford and Chris Jones, defensive tackle Jeremiah Ledbetter, safety Rolan Milligan, punter Ryan Santoso, tackle Dan Skipper and running back Dwayne Washington.
Detroit also released linebacker Jonathan Freeny Seth Jones Jersey , center Wesley Johnson, tight end Sean McGrath and cornerback DeShawn Shead — and put running back Zach Zenner on injured reserve. Zenner hurt his back in Thursday night’s preseason finale against Cleveland.
The Lions put wide receiver Andy Jones on the reserve/physically unable to perform list and waived defensive tackle Toby Johnson from injured reserve. Detroit also traded tackle Corey Robinson to the Carolina Panthers for a draft pick.
Rudock was drafted by the Lions in the sixth round out of Michigan in 2016, but he has attempted only five passes in three career NFL appearances. He played most of the first half against Cleveland on Thursday, and the Lions went into halftime trailing 25-0.
The 36-year-old Cassel has started at least one game in each of the past 10 seasons, most recently for the Tennessee Titans in 2017.
The backup quarterback spot hasn’t been terribly crucial for Detroit recently. Stafford hasn’t missed a start since the 2010 season.
Washington had 110 carries for the Lions over the past two seasons, but Detroit tried to bolster its running game this offseason by adding free agent LeGarrette Blount and drafting Kerryon Johnson in the second round.
